Bulls: Portrait of an Era

PORTRAIT OF AN ERA is a 112-page coffee-table book celebrating the Chicago Bulls in pictures and words after five NBA championships. Contracted by Rare Air as the book's designer, I was tasked with the challenge of visually showcasing the beloved team through a collection of photographs taken by Barry Elz over a three-year period. The photos were non-traditional sports images including intimate color and black-and-white portraits, images of objects, and interior and exterior shots of public and private spaces. The text was written by Rare Air's Mark Vancil (who brought us Jordan's FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME) and the book was published by Tango Publishing, in partnership with the NBA. Upon its release in 1998, after the team's sixth championship, it landed on the THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW Best Sellers list its first week.
